International Summer School on Artificial intelligence: from deep learning to data analytics

There are 33 registered students attending the first International Summer School on Artificial intelligence: from deep learning to data analytics (AI-DLDA 2018). It is an international summer school promoted by Ditedi, the Digital Technology District and ICT Cluster of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the University of Udine and Area Science Park.

Taking place in Udine from today to 6th July, the summer school falls within the programme of activities promoted by the Industry Platform 4 Fvg (IP4FVG), the initiative supporting the digital transformation of the enterprises from the local territory.

The participants in this educational week are mainly university students and researchers, but there are also entrepreneurs. They come from Austria, Norway, Ireland, Brazil, Spain and Italy, in particular from Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The macro-areas the Summer School focuses on are robotics, augmented reality, machine learning techniques and their multiple applications. While the mornings are devoted to theoretical sessions (held by internationally renowned lecturers from the Universities of Trento and Genoa, but also from Great Britain, Austria and Slovenia), the afternoons focus on laboratory activities. There is also room for the presentation of a few case histories thanks to the involvement of companies such as beanTech, Nvidia and Microsoft, the technical sponsors of the event.

The School, supported also by the Computer Vision Italian Association, has two objectives: on the one hand to connect researchers and PhD students from all the world with international experts and companies from the sector, and on the other hand to provide entrepreneurs and technicians from local companies with the opportunity to get in touch with the most innovative technological solutions.

The summer school is one of the first initiatives of the Udine hub of IP4FVG (Industry Platform 4 FVG), the new platform bringing together all the regional players of innovation with the goal of supporting the digital transformation of the local enterprises, stemming from the efforts by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Authority, the MIUR – Ministry for Education, University and Research, and the MiSE – Ministry for Economic Development. In the next few months, IP4FVG will launch four specialised Digital Innovation Hubs across the regional territory.
