Research in polar, oceanic and Mediterranean areas.
ISMAR carries out research in Mediterranean, oceanic and polar areas in order to study:
- the evolution of the oceans and continental margins to determine the activity of volcanoes, faults, submarine landslides and coastal impact scenarios
- the influence of climate change on ocean circulation, acidification, bio-geochemical cycles and marine productivity
- marine habitats and ecology, the increasing pollution of coastal and deep-sea areas
- fishery resources to keep their exploitation within sustainable limits and improve mariculture and aquaculture practices
- natural and anthropogenic factors impacting economically and socially on coasts and lagoons from prehistoric times to the industrial age.
