Digitalisation & ICT

We promote a culture of digitalization in a systemic manner, enhancing from a financial standpoint the many entrepreneurial ideas that stem in Italy in this sector.

Italian context

In Italy, the level of digital culture is far from advanced. According to the 2018 Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), Italy ranks 25th out of 28 countries – a position unchanged since 2015.
Digital issues are of strategic importance. According to estimates, 85,000 new specialists were in demand in 2018, 65,000 for entry-level positions, more than the half with a college degree, to meet a demand for labor that can be met only in part.

The situation is already critical as regards profiles such as Data Scientist, Business Analyst, Project Manager, Security Analyst and many more – all of which are necessary to carry out Digital Transformation projects.

The reluctance of companies and public institutions to adopt technologies mainly lies in the fact that certain entrepreneurs are unable to fully grasp the potential of the digital solutions, and the way in which they can be used.

In this scenario, startups may play a critical role to stimulate the Country as whole and the individual enterprises. In Italy, there are many start-ups (7,398 according to estimates of June 2017) although their growth is not yet at their full potential

The best of “made-in-Italy” at CES 2020

A good example of the commitment of Area Science Park is its activity of selection and valorization of the best Italian ICT startups, to meet potential international investors: in fact, Area Science Park organized in 2018 and 2019 the first and second TILT delegation at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas, under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Development. Area is presently selecting the new startups for the third mission in 2020.

Regional experimentation

Area Science Park also participates in the High Impact Net system, which, in synergy with the other assets of the ARGO system, aims at fostering the creation of digital start-ups, through the adoption of the Industry 4.0 enabling technologies.
