Prince of Monaco Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi – who has come to Trieste to inaugurate the plate that celebrates the famous Alpine pedestrian road connecting Trieste to Monaco – has visited today Area Science Park. Taking a keen interest in the world of research and innovation, the Prince dedicated some of his time in the Julian capital to get to know a few enterprises active in the region.

Prince Albert was welcome to Area Science Park by President Sergio Paoletti and General Manager Stefano Casaleggi, who spoke about the main fields of activity of the Agency, focusing on Argo, the new industrial system deriving from an understanding between the Ministry of Education, University and Research (Miur) and the Ministry of Economic Development (Mise), aimed at improving productivity in the territory.

On request of the Prince, a part of the meeting was dedicated to circular economy and environmental sustainability projects, illustrated by Innovation and Complex Systems Service Director Stephen Taylor, who gave concrete examples of enterprises working in these sectors, such as Shoreline – a company providing services and technologies for the management, protection and exploitation of the marine environment – Idrostudi, an engineering company doing research and development in the field of water management and territorial hydraulic protection; Java Biocolloid Europe (Italy), the affiliate of Indonesian company Java Biocolloid, leader in the production of agar-agar, the polysaccharide obtained from certain types of red algae and used in the food, pharmaceutical and microbiology industries.

At the end of the meeting, President Sergio Paoletti presented The Trieste Declaration of Human Duties, a code of ethics and shared responsibilities containing 12 points on the defense of human dignity, the protection of the environment and future generations and the keeping of peace among peoples.

Stemmed from an idea of professor Roger Sperry, and proposed by Nobel Prize Winner Rita Levi Montalcini to the University of Trieste in 1991 at the ceremony awarding her an honorary degree, the chart was promulgated a few years later by ICHD (International Council of Human Duties) and the University of Trieste, and signed by many dozens of distinguished scholars, including 15 Nobel Prize winners.
